Moscow First Church
Pastor Tanya and Davide Cantarella
Can you imagine attending worship services in an unheated auditorium in the middle of sub-zero weather, an auditorium that just happens to adjoin horse stables in the same building? From those beginnings in 1992, Moscow First Church was able to purchase space in a nearby building and, with the help of Work and Witness teams in 1995, to renovate and equip it for worship, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries distribution, Kids Klub, and other ministries. The district office has also been located there. Pastor Tanya Cantarella leads the church family, aided by her husband Davide. This past Christmas the church presented a Living Nativity Scene in front of the church, which attracted the interest of passersby, several of whom joined the church family. ( BACK TO LIST )

Pastor Masha and son Maxim
For three years a small group of believers in this city, located 600 miles east of Moscow on the Volga River, met to study the Word and worship. Then they heard about the Church of the Nazarene and started the process of becoming a local Nazarene church. Led by Pastor Maria Rahomova and her son Maxim, they are in the process of constructing a church building, with the help of Alabaster and Work and Witness. There is a strong Muslim presence in Ulyanovsk, going back to the days when the Mongols and Tatars swept across the Russian steppe. Ulyanovsk is also the birthplace of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, who lived there the first 17 years of his life. The Ulyanovsk Church has been reaching out into their community through Kids' Klub and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, and completion of the new building will be a major step forward.
